My last post for the year 2014 (Almost)

Hey everyone. I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year. This is going to be my last post for the year, unless there's something important I need to post.

My son (dog) has gotten sick on Sunday and we took him to the vet yesterday and the medication they gave him only made him worse. So this morning my brother took him back to the vet and they did all kinds of tests and deduced that he has a bacterial infection in his small intestine and put him on an antibiotic drip and kept him for a few hours and guess what? When he came back he was still not better, but gave my brother a pack of antibiotic medication to administer over the next few days.

Okay, I'm ranting, but I need to get this out. My dog hasn't eaten or drank anything in over two days. He still won't eat, not even chicken or steak or drink water to help save his life, not even when I force him (which makes him freak out by the way) and now I'm supposed to get this huge antibiotic pill down his throat? The vet told my brother that my son is not a social dog and he doesn't want to work with him, which is why he can't give him anymore antibiotics intravenously. My dog gets along fine with me and my family, as well as our two other dogs and even the cat. Of course he's extra grumpy because he's not feeling well and then I keep taking him to the vet to get experimented on. My son wants me to make it better and I don't know how.

The saddest part is watching him slip away right in front of my eyes and though I want to help, I don't know how. I tried forcing him to take the pill and he flipped out on me. It just stresses him out even more and I don't think adding stress to his already weakened condition is logical.

I'm sorry my last post is so heavy and depressing. But that is why I am ending my blogging year now. I'm going to focus on my son now and hope to comfort him any way I can and nurse him back to perfect health. Even my second round of rewrites will have to wait.

Once again, please have a wonderful Christmas and New Year and please take good care of yourselves. See you next year!

  1. Murees, I'm sorry! That really sucks. Is there another vet who might be more helpful? Really sorry you have to go through this. Crappy way to start the Christmas holidays.

    1. Thank you for your kind words Alex. There are about three vets at that one veterinary practice and if I go back, I'm going back to someone else. Even though they do consult each other on tough cases like that of my dog. But my dog is at least walking around today. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Thank you again.

  3. Sorry to hear you're having a tough time. Like Alex says, maybe a different vet would be more helpful? I can't believe yours is the only dog this vet has had problems with - does he only like animals when they're healthy? If so, he's in the wrong job! I hope things get better and you have a lovely Christmas.

    1. Thank you Annalisa! Luckily there are 2 other vet's at the same veterinary practice, so I'll just go to one of them instead. Though, they do consult each other on cases, like that of my dog. He is a bit better today, even though he still doesn't drink anything or eat. I hope you and your family will have a wonderful Christmas!

  4. I'm so sorry about your dog, and I think that maybe Annalisa is right about getting another consultation from a different vet. I hope that he feels better; I know what it's like to have a dog with health problems, and it's scary. But I think it comforts your dog to know that you are there for him and that you love him; dogs really do become part of the family because they're so lovable.

  8. By all means, find another vet. I can't believe the one you were going to turned away from a sick animal, even if he was being anti-social. I'll be looking forward to your first post of 2015 telling us he pulled through and everything is okay. In the meantime, try to have a Merry Christmas.

  9. I'm so sorry!!! Yes, that vet sounds horrible. I'd not only find another vet, but reported that one to your Department of Health. They license veterinarians (I used to work for the bureau that did that in my state) and hearing that a vet turned away a dog who was really sick would make a big difference... I believe there's a complaint process you'll go through. Probably a form to fill out. I hope you find a great vet and your fur baby gets back to health soon.

    1. Thank you! Merry Christmas to you too! He is better, but he's still on experimental treatment. He has to go back after two weeks to see if his blood count has improved. But he has more life in his eyes now.
