I have put it off long enough and now I think it is time to finally start editing my second book. I have been putting off this process intentionally, as the editing process truly scares me. I learned a lot with the editing of my first book, but still...I am going to force myself to take the process extra slow, as I have rushed it before and ended up with far more drafts of my first book than I had wanted.
I know that it is a vital part of the writing process, though, it does not mean that I don't fear it. But on the other hand, the more you do it, the better you get.
What are you up to? What truly scares you about the writing process?

I'm revising too. Slow and steady as they say, but still, quick and easy wouldn't go amiss occasionally...

...sounds strange, but I love revising, breathing life into an idea and watching it spread its wings.
ReplyDeleteBiggest fear...investing so much time and not getting the thing done ;)

In the past year, I've come to hate editing but I think what scares me is that whole publishing part. Not that I've done it, but the concept of it scares me.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with your revisions...
I'm editing too. It's not so bad if you take it one chapter at a time.
ReplyDeleteMooderino - I am happy to know I am not the only one editing. I have to take the slow approach this time though, as I tend to rush and then miss things.
ReplyDeleteElliot - That is a valid fear. I hope to reach a level when I would not mind rewriting either. It is just that I end up making things worse instead of better. Hopefully I will have better luck this time.
M.J. - That is a valid fear too. I am terrified as well. I guess I am just an all over scaredy cat. I am trying not to hate editing this time round. Maybe I just did it wrong the first time.
Tonja - It is good to know I am not alone. Good-luck with the editing. One chapter at a time sounds like a great idea.
I love editing - I love watching the scenes taking shape. It's the first draft I'm struggling with at the moment. I've written myself into a bit of a corner and don't know how to get out of it.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the edits and enjoy the process :-)
cant stand editing! reading the same stuff over and over is blinding! so glad to have crit partners! they shine the light and point out whats great and whats not and whats needed! time away from it helps too! i think i'll start my next round of edits after the holidays...new years res!
ReplyDeleteAnnalisa - Thank you. I am trying to love the editing process. So far it is not going too bad actually. Good luck with the writing.
ReplyDeleteTara - I didn't like it before, but I am trying to like it this time around, as I will be doing a lot of it. Good-luck with your writing and editing. Thank you so much for stopping by.
